\u00c5m\u00e5l – Dalslands stad<\/h1>\n

\u00c5m\u00e5l \u00e4r Dalslands enda stad och det har den varit sedan staden fick sina stadsprivilegier den 1 april 1643 av drottning Kristinas f\u00f6rmyndarregering. Stadens anl\u00e4ggning \u00e4r en direkt regerings\u00e5tg\u00e4rd f\u00f6r att stoppa landsk\u00f6pshandeln och framf\u00f6r allt timmerhandeln p\u00e5 Norge. Men myndigheterna lyckades aldrig st\u00e4vja smugglingen. F\u00f6r skogs\u00e4garna var gr\u00e4nshandeln viktig. Idag \u00e4r \u00c5m\u00e5l centralorten i \u00c5m\u00e5ls kommun i V\u00e4stra G\u00f6talands l\u00e4n och som andra orter i Dalsland har man n\u00e4ra kontakt med Norge.<\/p>\n

\u00c5r 2002 tilldelades \u00c5m\u00e5l utm\u00e4rkelsen \u00c5rets Stadsk\u00e4rna i Sverige. I den internationella t\u00e4vlingen Livcom Awards 2005<\/a>, som avgjordes i La Coru\u00f1a i Spanien, kom \u00c5m\u00e5l p\u00e5 en andraplats och kunde d\u00e5 kalla sig sj\u00e4lva f\u00f6r v\u00e4rldens n\u00e4st b\u00e4sta sm\u00e5stad.<\/p>\n

Tingshuset<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u00c5m\u00e5l \u00e4r bel\u00e4get p\u00e5 b\u00e5da sidor om \u00c5m\u00e5ls\u00e5n, som fr\u00e5n v\u00e4st till \u00f6st flyter genom staden och mynnar ut i \u00c5m\u00e5lsviken i V\u00e4nern. P\u00e5 vykortet ovan ser man direkt\u00f6r Almgrens villa bredvid Tingshuset. De byggdes efter branden 1901.
\nStaden har i sina centrala delar en regelbunden stadsplan. Medelpunkten \u00e4r torget invid \u00c5m\u00e5ls\u00e5n som delar staden i en nordlig och en sydlig h\u00e4lft.<\/p>\n

\u00c5m\u00e5l har tv\u00e5 framg\u00e5ngsrika fotbollslag, det ena mer framg\u00e5ngsrikt \u00e4n det andra enligt vissa.<\/p>\n
